North Augusta businessman Bill Hixon officially filed Tuesday as a candidate for South Carolina House of Representatives District 83.

Hixon, a Republican, said he hopes to use his background as a businessman to recruit good, new jobs to Aiken and Edgefield counties.

“I will use my years of experience in economic development to help bring good, new, high-paying jobs to our community,” Hixon said. “I’m a businessman, not a politician. We need more businessmen in government, to help run our state more efficiently.”

Hixon noted several other issues which he plans to address in his campaign.

“My goals are very clear,” Hixon said. “As our new State Representative, I will lead the fight for:
• Keeping taxes and spending as low as possible, so hard-working taxpayers can keep more of their own money;
• Standing up for the conservative, pro-family values embraced by the majority of the families in our community;
• Improving education, so South Carolina’s young people are given every opportunity to succeed in life;
• Stopping the growth of government. Government is growing out of control, not just in Washington, but also in Columbia; and
• Preserving the quality-of-life we enjoy, including protecting our natural resources, and continuing to enhance and improve services for South Carolina’s aging population.”
